Engineering with Intent
At BMComposites, we design and deliver advanced composite structures with purpose and for performance optimisation.
Specialising in superyacht roof structures, hardtops, and biminis, we work with lightweight marine-grade composite to create corrosion-resistant and installation-efficient solutions.
Whether working with yacht managers, captains, or international shipyards, our goal is the same: every structure must perform flawlessly at sea – not just look the part, but operate with precision and reliability.
What We Build: Composite Components with a Practical Purpose
Our composite roof structures are engineered systems, not just covers. They are designed to:
- Provide reliable sea and sun protection
- Withstand structural load-bearing
- Integrate seamlessly with AV, lighting, retractable panels, and secondary systems
Constructed from carbon fibre and epoxy laminates, our structures are:
- Lightweight: every gram saved aloft improves balance and performance
- Strong & durable: high strength-to-weight ratio with long service life
- Corrosion-resistant: no oxidisation in saltwater environments
- Precision-tooled: reducing fairing and rework on site
A Full-Scope Approach with Integrated Systems
We design, manage, and deliver the entire scope of system integration in-house. This ensures alignment between structure and systems, simplifying refits and avoiding post-installation adaptation.
Our integrated solutions include:
- Custom-fitted glass windscreens and Strataglas™ clear panels
- Electrically actuated sunshades and opening roof panels
- Solar panels integration within the composite structure
- Lighting and AV systems, with cable routing pre-planned
- Interfaces for HVAC and fire-fighting systems
- Pre-mounted, removable headliners for easy service access
- Load-bearing integration for communication equipment and radar masts
Benefit for clients: fewer delays, fewer unknowns, and a single point of responsibility.

Our Process. From Survey to Sea.
Every project is managed in-house from concept to installation. Our 3D scanning for yachts enables precise geometries, reducing onboard time. We develop fairing-free installations and prefabricated roof components to optimize shipyard workflows.
Step | What We Do | Benefit to Client |
---|---|---|
1. Project Briefing & Planning | Define needs, vessel constraints, and scope | Technical clarity from day one |
2. Survey / 3D Scanning | Capture geometry digitally | Yacht can leave while design continues |
3. Engineering | CAD, load planning, classification compliance | Accurate, ready-for-build designs |
4. Fabrication | CNC-tooled, vacuum laminated, faired in-house | Faster build, higher quality |
5. Installation | Delivered ready-to-fit, typically 2–5 days | Minimal disruption, no hot works |
6. System Integration | AV, solar, HVAC, radar, lighting embedded | Eliminates costly third-party outfitting |
“We aim to minimise the time a yacht spends idle. Most of our work is complete before we even step on board.” – Luke Hendy, Commercial & Technical Director.

Why Choose Composite Superyacht Roof Structures Over Metal?
Superyacht roof structures sit aloft, exposed, and system-loaded — demanding a material that is light, strong, and resilient.
Using carbon fibre yacht structures instead of aluminium delivers exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, with reduced thermal expansion and minimal maintenance in saltwater environments.
Property | Carbon Fibre Composite | Aluminium / Steel |
---|---|---|
Weight | Significantly lighter | Adds weight aloft |
Corrosion Resistance | Inert in saltwater | Prone to oxidisation |
Strength-to-Weight | Very high | Heavy for equivalent |
Thermal Expansion | Minimal | Noticeable under solar load |
Finish | Tool-finished, minimal fairing | Requires fairing & sealing |
Formability | Complex, fair shapes possible | Limited by weld/bend radius |
Result: leaner, more efficient yachts, reduced windage, and strict vertical limits met with precision.
